TEVEZ ON CITY

Carlos Tevez was the captain of Manchester City when City had won the FA Cup in 2011. Tevez is not the City skipper any more, but, he is still a vital member of the squad. The Argentinean striker was talking to the reporters ahead of City’s fifth round FA Cup match against Leeds United which is going to be played at Etihad Stadium.

When asked how much this competition matters for the club, Tevez said, “This is a very important competition and the whole team is determined to win it. We had won this competition in 2011 and we want to repeat that in this season.”

Everton has defeated Newcastle United in a Premier League match played at St. James’ Park on Wednesday. Everton won the match by a close margin of 2-1. This was the ninth victory for Everton in the ongoing Premier League. With this victory, Everton has moved up to no. 5 in the points table.

The Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said that the team was extremely lucky in the 2-0 win over Wigan in the midweek action.

Manchester City needed a win from this match in order to at least stay in touch with Manchester United if not overtake them in the title race. They managed to take all three points from this match after goals from James Milner and Mario Balotelli in the space of 2 min in the second half. Due to the fact that United also managed to win the match, this victory helps City keep in touch with the leaders at the top of the table.

The Everton manager David Moyes has said that he is extremely frustrated following the 2-0 defeat at the hands of West Brom during the weekend. Everton were coming into the match on the back of three consecutive victories over Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Leyton Orient.

The Everton manager David Moyes has said that the Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert should not be criticised from the word go and that he should be given time to build his own team. Everton managed to run out 3-1 winners over Aston Villa at Villa Park.

This has been one of the best starts to a new season by Everton after many years. The slow start has been one of the main reasons for Everton not finishing much higher than they should do. However, David Moyes has changed the training techniques of the players in order to bring out the best in them during the early parts of the campaign.

Throughout the summer there has been plenty of speculation linking Tottenham with a new goalkeeper, with several names being linked with an arrival at White Hart Lane. Perhaps the biggest rumour has been associated with Hugo Lloris, with several media outlets reporting that the Lyon shot stopper has been on the radar of Andre Villas-Boas. However, it appears as though the club have now put a stop to negotiations, after the Lyon chairman confirmed that Spurs had tried, yet failed, with an attempt to prize the 25-year-old away.

HULL SIGN BRUCE

Championship club Hull City have decided to sign former Sunderland manager Steve Bruce as their new man to lead the club.

The club recently sacked Nick Barmby from his position after the former midfielder made some ill-advised comments about the owners of the club. Steve Bruce has been out of work after being sacked by Sunderland midway through the season.

Even though Manchester City capped a remarkable comeback in the Premier league after the 1-0 win, Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini refused to say that his team were the favourites to win the title this season.

DISTIN SAYS SORRY

Everton defender Sylvain Distin has said that he is extremely sorry for the back pass, which was the cause for the late goal by Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final between the two clubs recently.

Sylvain Distin has already won the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008.

He had the chance to help David Moyes celebrates his 10 years at Everton by lifting the FA Cup this season, but a catastrophic error by the Frenchman led to Liverpool scoring the goal in the dying minutes of the game, which eventually proved to be the winner. Following the match, Distin apologised to the Everton fans.
