Danny Mills urges Tom Davies to consider fresh challenge away from Everton

Former Premier League ace Danny Mills has urged Tom Davies to consider a fresh challenge away from Everton this summer. The 22-year-old has spent his entire career with the Toffees where he has made more than 100 appearances and there have been a number of matches where he has also been handed the captain’s armband.

Despite this, he has struggled for regular game time under Carlo Ancelotti and he found himself on the bench on more occasions during the backend of the previous season. Speaking to Football Insider, Mills said that it could be time to move on for Davies, considering he is no longer a guaranteed starter at the Merseyside outfit.

He told: “It’s always difficult when somebody’s come through the system. You want to promote as many players through the system as possible. They have ties with the club, ties with the community and fans love it. But I think it’s getting to that stage now where he needs game time. He will want to play week in, week out. That’s what you want as a footballer. He’s a squad player now so maybe he needs that challenge to play week in week out and play 30 or 35 games a season.”
The Toffees have yet to make any meaningful changes to the squad and they have so far faced failure in the summer transfer market. They were keen on landing Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille, but ultimately missed out on his signature amid the fierce competition. The centre-back has now agreed to join Arsenal and an official confirmation appears on the horizon.
On the other hand, they also missed out on midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Tottenham Hotspur. They had placed a tempting offer on the table, but the Dane opted to make the switch to the north London club from Southampton.
