HUGE BLOW

Everton's hopes of finishing in the top four took a huge blow after they were defeated by their rivals for this position – Tottenham – at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Liverpool, Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United are considered as the key players for the final Champions League place. Liverpool already hold a significant advantage over the other clubs due to the three-point advantage. Tottenham, Everton, and United played their match on Sunday this weekend and they were under pressure to get three points after Liverpool's stunning 5-1 win over Arsenal which prompted those famous lfc t shirts.

After a great first half to the season in which they lost only a couple of matches, Everton have now suffered two back-to-back defeats after a 1-0 loss against Tottenham. Emmanuel Adebayor scored the only goal of the game in the 65th minute. As a result of this defeat, Everton have slipped into the place with Tottenham leapfrogging them in the table. Roberto Martinez said after the match that he was very disappointed with the result since he felt that Everton deserved at least a point.

He also felt that Everton were denied a stonewall penalty claim when right back Coleman was fouled in the box.
"I haven't seen the replay but it looked a very sloppy incident. I think it was a careless challenge. He tries to win the ball and didn't at all. I'm not sure if there was enough contact for a penalty, but I've seen them given. You need a little bit of luck and it was one of those days for us. Looking at the performance, it is disappointing because we didn't get the result but if we can take this performance into the next 13 games, we're going to get a lot of points," Martinez said afterwards.

Everton's next match will be against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.
