Duncan Ferguson Hails Cenk Tosun After Everton Progress

Everton coach Duncan Ferguson is pleased with Cenk Tosun’s adaptability following his move from Besiktas during the winter transfer window. The Turkey international joined the Toffees in a £27m deal in January, but struggled to make immediate progress as he failed to score in the first four matches for the club.

However, he has since had a number of one-on-one sessions with Ferguson to cope with the Premier League demands, and this has paid dividends. Speaking on Sky Sports News, Ferguson spoke positively about the former Besiktas man, who has been in the goals since March, he said: "He's settling in well. I think it took him a bit of time to adjust to the Premier League but he's looking good. We're obviously made up that he's scored a few goals now. Hopefully, that continues. He can be a success if he keeps on working hard, we keep on giving him the supply. I think he can score goals for us."

Tosun scored in a losing cause against Burnley earlier this month, but he has since continued his fine form with three more goals including a brace in the 2-1 win over Stoke City. As a result, he has the best goal-per-minute ratio of 106 among the Toffees players whilst his tally has made him the club’s fifth highest goal scorer this campaign.

The striker’s form is surely a positive heading into the final quarter of the season, where the Toffees could make a push for the European spots. The Merseyside outfit are presently three points off Burnley, who are placed seventh in the table, and Allardyce will be hoping that his side can edge the Lancashire outfit to the position, which is likely to assure Europa League football for next term. Unless Southampton wins the FA Cup this season, the seventh place in the Premier League standings is guaranteed a spot in Europe’s second competition.
