Danny Mills slams Everton midfielder after Crystal Palace draw

Former Premier League star Danny Mills has criticised midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin following his sending off for Everton in the Premier League opener. The France international picked up two yellow cards leading to the send-off against Crystal Palace and that stemmed the Toffees pursuit of the winning goal at Selhurst Park.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mills acknowledged that Schneiderlin was unfortunate to receive a yellow card for the first incident but he should have shown more cautious thereafter, he said: “I think the first yellow card was a little bit harsh, I don’t think there was an awful lot in that. Having said that, once you’ve got one you can’t do anything, you’ve got to have the most perfect behaviour. It wasn’t dramatic what he did, it wasn’t disastrous but once Everton went down, it looked like it held them back a little bit.”

Meanwhile, Andre Gomes was substituted midway through that game with an ankle problem but it is unclear whether he would be available for the forthcoming matches. With Schneiderlin suspended for the Watford clash, summer signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Tom Davies remain the only fit senior midfielders, although Fabian Delph could offer manager Marco Silva with a boost after reporting to training after an injury sustained during pre-season.

The Merseyside outfit have been one of the best of the rest teams, who have been fancied to make the push for the top-six, but for that, they need to make the most of the friendlier schedule when compared to other teams. They have a home game against Watford this weekend but the encounter won’t be an easy one for sure with the Hornets likely to come up with a reaction after the recent 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion. The Hornets picked up four points from Everton during the previous campaign.
