Barnsley managed to get a positive result in the sectional finals

Barnsley managed to get a positive result in the sectional finals against Fleetwood Town in the first leg.

The 1-1 draw in the away match gives only hope that they can finally win the title with a victory in the second leg, which will be at home. Victory against Fleetwood Town in the second leg will provide Barnsley with a date at the new Wembley for the first time since 2008. The club has had a good run in cup competitions like the FA Cup, but they have not been successful in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in recent times.

Manager Lee Johnson says that Barnsley players are very keen on ending the silverware drought. 2015 had been a difficult year for the club, but it appears that they have had a good start to 2016. The new year started with a 2-1 win against Millwall. This has done little to improve the league position of the club, but Johnson is hoping that this is the start of a good run. Barnsley have now suffered only one defeat in the last four matches with all of the games bringing three points to the club. There is little to separate Fleetwood Town and Barnsley in terms of league form. The two teams are expected to be closely matched in the return leg as well.

“You have to keep going and I have certainly never lacked any belief in myself because of the work rate that me and my staff have put in.Hopefully, it has turned. We are not out of the woods yet, but have real potential to get some silverware. It’s a huge part of my focus because, as a player, I was lucky enough to win a fair amount. I want to continue that as a manager,” said Johnson.
