Johnson tips Wilshere

Manchester City and England winger Adam Johnson has tipped Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere, currently on loan at Bolton Wanderers, to be the next world class England youngster to breakthrough into the senior squad.

In an exclusive interview with Sport.co.uk Manchester City’s number 11 tips Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere to have a similar impact to Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney at international level, describing Arsenal’s precocious talent as “the one” to pick up the baton in a similar fashion to Wayne Rooney.

Johnson, 22, moved to Manchester City in the January transfer window for a fee believed to be in the region of £8 million, and the youngster is eager to prove he can make it at international level. Despite his own ambitions to win trophies at Manchester City, Johnson admitted he was impressed with Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere. The young Gunner has impressed since going on loan at Bolton Wanderers winning plaudits from boss Owen Coyle.

Johnson was asked by Sport.co.uk of your generation of young English players around the England Under-21 squad, apart from yourself, who is that other special talent who is going to go on and be a world-beater in your eyes? Johnson said:

“That’s a good question that, there’s a few. I’ve played against Wilshere while he on loan and Bolton and he looks a very good talent. I could probably go on but I think it’s difficult to say at such a young age. I think Rooney was probably a total one-off that you’ll never see for another 10 years, who can just come straight in as a 16-year-old and just tear everything up.

“Everyone couldn’t believe what he was like, but there are a few and Wilshere’s impressed me when I’ve seen him play for Arsenal so he could be one.”
